New Housing Price Index (NHPI): May 2010

According to StatsCan, the NHPI rose 0.3% in May following identical increases in March and April.  Year-over-year new home prices were up 2.9% in Canada.

Calgary prices registered a similar 0.3% increase month-over-month, and was up 3.1% year-over-year.

The largest year-over-year increases were recorded in:

  • Regina (+7.4%)
  • St. John’s (+6.2%)
  • Vancouver (+5.8%).

Among the 21 metropolitan areas surveyed, 3 registered 12-month declines in May:

  • Victoria (-3.9%)
  • Charlottetown (-1.6%)
  • Edmonton (-0.1%)

Between April and May, prices increased the most in Regina (+3.4%), followed by Toronto and Oshawa (+0.7%).

The largest month-over-month decreases were  in Kitchener (-0.8%), Victoria (-0.4%), Windsor (-0.2%) and London (-0.1%).
