If you’re buying a home in the next month or so, there are some closing dates that you should avoid to save yourself stress come possession day.
Lou Pesta, a real estate lawyer at Walsh LLP writes:
As everyone knows, June 30th tends to be the single busiest closing day of the year. I’ve posted warnings about end of June closings in past years asking people to avoid writing up deals with June 30th to July 2nd completion dates.
This year the way the dates fall in the calendar it is worse.
June 30th happens to be a Monday, Canada Day a Tuesday and Stampede Parade Day in Calgary is Friday, July 4th. Closing real estate transactions from and including Friday, June 27th to and including Monday, July 7th is going to be a challenge.
In particular I would urge people to avoid June 27th to July 1st and Friday July 4th as potential closing dates. This will save clients (and your friendly neighbourhood lawyer) a lot of needless stress.
