Paradise Road, Highway 1 Intersection Construction Started
On October 17th, construction began to close the median at the intersection of Highway 1 (TransCanada Highway) and Paradise Road. While the intersection is now closed at the time of this posting, work is still ongoing on the median so please drive carefully and obey the posted speed limits.
Vehicles travelling eastbound on Highway 1 will still be able to turn onto Paradise Road, but vehicles travelling from Paradise Road will no longer be able to make a left turn to travel west on Highway 1. Future plans include closing the intersection altogether when the Province constructs an interchange on Rainbow Road and the TransCanada.
That particular intersection had been the scene of serious collisions and fatalities.
Although the TransCanada Highway is maintained by the Provincial Government, finding a solution for the intersection was a condition of Mattamy Homes’ development approval in the northern part of Chestermere. Alberta Transportation granted the necessary approvals but the Developer ensured that Rocky View County and the Town were kept up to date on the status of the project. (Source)
