First Time Home Buyers Wish They Had Waited Longer

Two thirds of Albertan first time home buyers admit they wish they had saved a bigger down payment and waited longer to buy their first home, according to the 2012 TD Canada Trust First Time Home Buyers Report.

The report found many Albertans think they made some “rookie mistakes” in their first house hunt.

The majority say there are some things they would do differently if buying again, including:

  • Made a bigger down payment (67%)
  • Waited longer to be able to afford a bigger/better home (63%)
  • Been more thorough when budgeting and accounting for all of the costs of home ownership (63%)
