Mortgages in Arrears Continue to Fall: June 2011

For the fifth consecutive month Alberta’s residential mortgages in arrears declined in June according to the most recent statistics released by the Canadian Banker’s Association.

A total of 4,091 mortgages making up 0.79% were in arrears in June, down slightly from the 4,123 or 0.81% recorded in the previous month.   Back in January of this year, that figure was at 4,240 which made up 0.84% of total residential mortgages in Alberta.    Year-over-year, June’s figure has risen from  3,707 / 0.73%.

The positive trend continued across Canada where 17,028 mortgages were in arrears in June (0.41%) down from 17,121 in May.  But unlike Alberta, the figure has dropped year-over-year with fewer mortgages in arrears than last June.
