The price of a new home in Calgary was down 0.1% between July and August according to the New Housing Price Index (NHPI) released by Statistics Canada today. Year-over-year, new house prices in Calgary were up 2.4% from the previous August.
Statistics Canada reported that builders in Calgary as well as in Greater Sudbury and Thunder Bay reduced their prices to remain competitive.
Canada-wide, the NHPI increased 0.1% in August. Year over year, the NHPI was up 2.9% in August following an identical increase in July.
The largest year-over-year increases were recorded in:
- Regina (+6.1%)
- Winnipeg (+5.3%)
- St. John’s (+4.9%).
- Ottawa–Gatineau (+4.5%)
- Vancouver (+4.4%)
- Saskatoon (+3.8%).
Among the 21 metropolitan areas surveyed, 4 registered 12-month declines in August:
- Charlottetown (-2.2%)
- Greater Sudbury and Thunder Bay (-1.8%),
- Windsor (-1.3%)
- Victoria (-0.4%).













Mike F : Thanks for posting the 24 hr data on your site – would it be possible to post 30 day listings or month-to-date listings like Bob does? Now that he’s offline, it’s hard to find that data and it seems to be a pretty good leading indicator of prices.
